serious detours

holy week just passed. some pinoys usually use this time to reflect or do retreats. some use it as their vacation from work. i didn't do anything except read a book and surf online.

as the group was planning to go to coron, i decided to go to the pier to buy some tickets come easter sunday. i was told stories about the pier. how it was unsafe for both locals and foreigners, for both women and men. but then my intent to go to coron was stronger. as the PUJ smoothly drove between freight cargos and headed towards delpan, a toddler aged 5-7yrs came out of nowhere and ran across the street. the PUJ hit the little kid. us, the passengers, were both startled and confused as whether we should get off the PUJ or stay in our seats. thing was, it was a very unsafe area and staying there waiting for the next jeep to arrive was really risky. eventually, the kid was brought inside the jeep with passengers all going towards the nearest hospital. the one thing that got stuck in my mind was the kid's foot with the bone sticking out. his blood was dripping on the jeep's floor. it somehow created a map on the floor.
everyone was quiet and in shock. the driver was beating his chest while he was driving. i was traumatized.

i remembered my nephew. they were of the same age.

it's not my first time to be in a PUJ that hit a kid. i experienced the same thing while riding one along commonwealth. the jeep lost its brakes and there was a group of moms with their kids crossing the street. it looked like they just came from school. the jeep tried to avoid them but reached the tailend of the group which included a kid. we immediately unloaded from the jeep and then the PUJ rushed the little kid to the hospital.

guess, it's a different experience when you're actually in the vehicle rushing someone to the emergency. especially one which involves kids.
