in 6 days i'll be reaching 30. i don't know what people do in their 30's. so i took to google and did a mini-search....staying healthy in 30's, returning to school, start saving, changing careers, children, forums (pinoy exchange focused on getting married and relationships...)
i chose to read some stuff.
1) i selected an article written by an early retiree in his 30's. he's 36. voila! some things discovered.
>> Retirement forces you to stop thinking that it is your job that holds you back. For most people the depressing truth is that they aren't that organized, disciplined, or motivated.
...ibig sabihin, kahit wage slave ka, you can do what your heart desires basta't organized, disciplined at motivated ka. early retirement is not a driving factor for you to do what you really want do.
>> You still end up running the same errands that you ran when you were a wage slave, but now they stick out
more. The errands aren't keeping you from attending a boring meeting at work; they're keeping you from a fun horse-riding or helicopter-flying lesson. ...may errands pa rin.
other things: kung early retiree ka in your 30's:
...tatrabahuin mo social life mo dahil karamihan sa friends mo working pa rin.
...magsisimula kang mag-enjoy ng organizational tours. kasi nga wala ka na shadong social life. usually social life mo eh officemates o dating officemates.
...sabi daw sa TIME magazine, jan17,2005 issue, at least 50% of happiness is genetic. so wala mashadong big change sa kasiyahan mo kung mag-retire ka ng maaga. kasi nga genetic.
...'engagement and meaning are much more important [than pleasure]'. so ok ang kids. meaning and engagement are important. pleasure passes. starting to feel that now.
...'Cerebral virtues--curiosity, love of learning--are less strongly tied to happiness than interpersonal virtues like kindness, gratitude, and the capacity for love'. so, importante ang kindness, gratitude at capacity for love. mmm..yep. guess, i agree. personally, the love of learning isn't a big thing now as it was before. curiosity for things is also decreasing. values, and people capable for things like kindness and the capacity for love seem to capture my attention more these days.
2) a comment on pinoyexchange by some guy. forum about reaching age 30.

"not yet 30, but less than 3 years to go, and yes I'm feeling it now, the feeling of wanting to be with someone and have someone for good, i had been through several relationships already, be it serious or not, but as they say, it's all part of growing up specially in guys, play around as much as you can while you are still young so you won't play around when you're already attached and married.. now that I'm feeling that the time is approaching fast that I would want it already, probably before 30 or 30, I can't find that someone.. those ex'es where I felt loved and special won't even bother to talk to me anymore, I hope i'm not being a jerk.. but yes, if I were to decide to get married now and have a choice on who I were to pick it would have been one of my ex'es, i mean prolly 2 or 3 of them are wife material, but heck I'm being ignored already.. all i have now are people who are not even worth to get serious with.."
...im keeping my before 25yrs old theory. that you've met / encountered the person you're suppose to marry before you reach age 25.
other things:
...well, based on this forum, most of the people here in the forum reaching 30 have been hurt once kaya single
...they're waiting for a mr/ms right...they're waiting for that feeling that this is the one pag nagpropose
...they're waiting na magkagusto sa kanila yung gusto nila
...they're waiting na magsawa sila enjoying their single life
...they're waiting for the time na sasabihin nila sa sarili nila na i'm ready
di ko alam. puro waiting. magagalit si bo sanchez sa mga to. medyo passive ata approach ng mga batang pinoy na to sa forum.
>>> conclusion: staying healthy in 30's > good. di dapat magkasakit. mahirap na. expensive.
returning to school >
still an option. chance to meet other professionals. start saving > dapat. constant na ata to till retirement comes.
changing careers > nakakatakot gawin at this stage. additional income on the side siguro pero mahirap ata yung complete make-over.
children > mmmm..yeah..haven't thought of that still.
